After I left Bell Island on Currituck Sound, I traveled to the Outer Banks. After a few hours of scenic views of the ocean and sound, I arrived at Jockey’s Ridge State Park. The park encompasses the largest sand dunes on the East coast. This park is where many people learn to hang glide. Although it is just sand dunes it does have history and its own beauty. The sand is soft and hard to walk on. I did get to see a few folks preparing for a hang gliding lesson but was unable to stay long enough to see their attempts. Since the park has easy access off the highway, try to see it if you get to the Outer Banks.
Be sure to wear shoes of some kind, the sand can get over 130 degrees in the warmer months. Enjoy!
