One of the biggest lakes in North Carolina is Lake Norman. This man made lake is also home to Lake Norman State Park. The park is full of things to do, including, biking, camping, boating, hiking, and plenty more. Just before Charlotte NC, the Park is in Mooresville, a small town that being discovered by more people each year. The park however, seems to be somewhat lost in the mix, it is always full, but has a peaceful feeling. It has a boat launch for those that bring water craft. I usually take my kayak so I can get in some fishing while I am there. There are some pretty good hiking trails around the lake area and plenty of groups of bike riders come up from the Charlotte area to enjoy the weather and views. Boats traveling up and down the lake are sounds in the distance, not enough to annoy, but to remind you that you are that close to the lake pretty much everywhere you go. Just before you get to the park entrance, make sure you pop in to the local bait store, everything from night crawlers to crickets are available. The park has good campsites with facilities available. The park seems to be at the “weather” divide in the state, where everything north is slightly cooler, so you can go to the lake in the cooler months and still feel comfortable. I visit the park at least 4-5 times a year, it never gets old. Since I have friends in Charlotte, it is a great place to meet up and enjoy catching up with everybody.
